She might be a Division III swimmer, but La Reina High senior Emily Bibb returns to the Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach as Southern California's fastest in two events.
Bibb, winner of seven CIF individual titles in her career, is the No. 1 seed for the girls' 200- and 100-yard freestyle races for the Masters Meet today at 5 p.m.
In its second year, the Masters Meet brings together the 16 swimmers in each event. All four divisions will be represented by the first- and second-place finishers as well as swimmers with the next 16 fastest times.
Twenty-three area individuals and seven relay teams qualified for the Masters. Every event, except for girls' diving, will be represented by at least one area swimmer or relay team.
Bibb won Division III titles in the 200 free and 100 free with automatic All-American times of 1 minutes, 47.48 seconds and 50.87, respectively.
The 24-person field for the girls' 200 has seven area qualifiers. Besides Bibb, others advancing to the Masters in the event are Camille Duckett of Thousand Oaks, Khristine Ghemigian of Oak Park, Alex Sullivan of Newbury Park, Ventura's Alexis Lee, Oaks Christian's Hayley Shillington and Westlake's Aislinn Smalling.
Oaks Christian's Kevin Nielsen and Nolan Koon are seeded No. 2 in the boys' 100 fly and 200 individual medley, respectively. Jackie Brousseau of Westlake and Pacifica's Kendall Neely had the third and fifth fastest qualifying times in the girls' 50 free.
