An Amtrak train struck and killed a 35-year-old Simi Valley man shortly after 8 p.m. Friday as he was trying to cross railroad tracks on foot near the 2000 block of Donville Avenue, officials said.
Greg Larson was trying to cross the tracks with a friend. The friend was not injured.
Larson was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:20 p.m., the Ventura County Coroner's Office said Saturday. Larson died of multiple blunt force injuries. The death was ruled accidental.
Police were not releasing any further details, such as why Larson attempted to cross the tracks at that time.
Larson was struck about 8:05 p.m. Friday by an Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train on its daily run from San Diego to Goleta, Amtrak spokesman Karina Romero said Saturday. No passengers or crew members were hurt, she said.
The accident caused the train to be delayed 70 minutes, Romero said, and also had a ripple effect on other trains in the area.
Three other trains encountered delays ranging from 43 to 65 minutes, including two that were held at Amtrak's Moorpark station. The third was held so passengers could make connections to other trains. Service was back to normal Saturday, she said.

It's not that hard to cross train tracks. If you see a train coming... STOP! Amtrak would only delay your walk across by about 4 seconds if you yield to the train.

How do you get hit by a train?..How can you be so heartless? Have some compassion!! First of all i knew and loved this man..He was one of best people i had ever met and a REAL friend!! This was a tragic accident, and a terrible loss. Greg will be truely missed.

He was drunk, he didn't purposley do it, or at least I would hope not. Plus, when your intoxicated, you don't know what your doing...and you think your moving faster than you actually are.
