A 23-year-old Oxnard man was being held on $500,000 bail Saturday on suspicion of murder for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death as a result of an argument after she told him she was leaving him, police said.
Uriel Cruz turned himself in to Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies on Calabasas Road about 9:15 a.m. Friday, capping an incident that began the same day behind the Target store at 4200 E. Main St., Ventura, shortly after 7:30 a.m., Sgt. Jack Richards of the Ventura Police Department said.
The saga ended after Cruz's family members urged him to turn himself in, Richards said. Cruz, who apparently had been driving around in a car, called deputies.
Cruz is due in Ventura County Superior Court on Tuesday, according to court records.
Barbarita Luna, 25, of Ventura was stabbed multiple times in the chest, Richards said. She was found dead in his car, he added.
Ventura police responded to a report of an altercation near a vehicle at the Target store shortly before 7:45 a.m. When they arrived, neither the subjects nor the vehicle were there, but they did find evidence of a crime.
Richards said the nature of that evidence is being withheld.
About 75 minutes later, Ventura police were informed that the Los Angeles County Sheriff's station in Calabasas had the suspect, Cruz, in custody. Authorities believe the stabbing occurred in Ventura.

Wow how sad ! I do not know the nature of this story what led up to the fight where this woman lost her life. But as parents we need to be aware of our children even if they are grown adults. Alot of times with jealous men that are controlling and abusing you can see the signs.
Your daughter stops:
wearing makeup
dressing as usual
hanging out with close friends
talking on the phone
The list goes on. If you see these signs make an intervention and sit down and speak with your daughter. She may open up.
My prayers to this young womans family and friends!

If he was an illegal alien, how the heck was he working at Target!?
Anna, if grown adults can't take care of themselves or know they are in a bad situation, then they shouldn't be condidered adults. I'm sure he was a hard working guy trying to make money and send home to his family. No excuse.

I have a problem, maybe I can't read or you all read a differant story then this one, no where in the story did it say anything about his be Illigal, or having a green card or working at Target. It may all be true, but it sure is not in this story.
However he did kill some one it is good he is in jail where he belongs.

The crime occurred in the City of Ventura and the suspect turned himself in, to the LASD at Calabasas. Why did they have to say he was an Oxnard man? Where did the victim live? Does the Star not like Oxnard? 98% of those who live, work or visit Oxnard, are good, hard working folks. The Star paints Oxnard as if it is an awful City.

You honestly think The Star give Oxnard a bad rep? No Oxnard does it for its self. Oxnard is the arm pit of Ventura County; it is hard to see the good with all the bad that comes out of it. Yes every City/town had its bad. Oxnard just has a lot more troublesome things that come out of it. Every time I read the paper, there is some shooting, stabbing, gang related, theft, drugs etc. in Oxnard.
This man is a JERK and should be taken in the back and stabbed. An eye for an eye. How sad the last thoughts going through that women’s mind was nothing but fear. Abusive weather it is mentally, physical, emotionally is a serious situation. The embracement he has inflicted on his family and the grief on hers.

The fact that the Star did not report the fact that he is illegal shows how again, the media does not want us to know just how bad the illegal problem is. They show us pictures of good people in church and we are supposed to think all illegals are good. We should know the truth and get both sides. The fact that he is illegal is very important. He is a killer that should never have been here in the first place. Another death that shouldn't have happened and won't stop until we close the border. It is bad enough to loose a loved one but to loose them because an illegal that should never have been here took their life makes it that much worse. And if he was working at Target, whose social security number did he use?

I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW EVERY TIME A CRIME HAPPENS
OR SOMETHING IS SAID ABOUT AN ILLEGAL OR SOME INVOLVEMENT IS MENTIONED EVERYBODY THAT OPINIONATES SAYS SOMETHING NEGATIVE ON ILLEGALS.IN CASE NOBODY KNOWS EVERY RACE ON THE FACE OF THIS
EARTH HAS A CRIMINAL IN IT,AND IF WE CHECK IN OUR JAILS I BET YOU ILLEGALS DON'T OVER POPULATE THE JAILS.TRY CHICANOS,WHITES ,BLACKS AND ORIENTALS.ALOT OF YOU THAT GAVE OPINIONS FOCUSED ON THE ILLEGAL ISSUE INSTEAD OF THE FACT THAT THIS GIRL IS DEAD.JUST MY OPINION,MY FREEDOM OF SPEECH, AFTER ALL I AM IN THE U.S (I..? THINK.......)

Surfmedic, Age doesn't matter when it comes to loosing your child. What I am saying is some men become so pocessive that if you see these signs try to talk to them about thier relationship. Is that so wrong? Fathers and Mothers never stop caring or loving thier children..........

This is a tragedy. I don't think it would make it better if an American citizen kills a loved one as opposed to an illegal alien. I also don't think that if an illegal alien saves you from drowning in the ocean--you should then go commit suicide because he wasn't supposed to be here--or throw up the meal that you ate at Carrows because the cook wasn't supposed to be here because he is undocumented. By the way, my father brought me here legally in a Boeing 747 after a terrible earthquake in Guatemala. If he had not brought me to this great country legally, I would hope he would have brought me here illegally--any way he could have--so I could enjoy the life that I do today. Those that say "why don't they stay in their own country?"--need to ask why was it different for the Pilgrims that risked everything? For the Cubans that are willing to float here in an tire tube? For the Chinese that are willing to spend a month in the cellar of a rusty cargo boat? If we really don't want any more illegal aliens period--then we must start doing the work--the hard work--that we no longer want to do. Those that do the most complaining are usually the ones least likely to want to pay a gardner $100 a month--or a baby sitter $10/hour--or $40 for a car wash. You notice how few people wash their own cars? What American dreams of washing cars? Anyone ever think about who would ever want to pick strawberries--at any wage, let alone $2 a box? You would also think that if illegal immigration was such a drain on the economy that those states with the least amount of immigrants would be living a life of luxury. Look up that statistic.

Listen up people....we don't even know if he is illegal. It is just specualtion....quit posting comments talking about the illegal immigrant problem. This guy murdered someone...that is what the entire article is about.

You guys leaving speculative comments are not being productive at all. Nor are the people that are responding to the "flamebait".
RIP to Barbarita Luna and my condolences to her family. :(

eduardocenter, I understand your comment. But a bit of course. My hispanic gardner, that is just about what I pay...... for a babysitter I have never seen anyone pay 10.00 per hour..... come on! And 40.00 to wash your car? Please.............
There are alot of American owned car washes that charge less then 10.00? So I dont get your point on those.

I'm amazed that everyone who posted a comment regarding the Illegal alien issue still has there comment posted here but yet mine was removed. What is the purpose of allowing the community to post a comment just to have it deleted.

AnnaWhaat, you wrote: "There are alot of American owned car washes that charge less then 10.00? So I dont get your point on those."
HaHaHa, yes, true, but these "American owned car washes" have nothing but illegals working for them. Including the fancy station in Camarillo, located less than one mile from the notorious I.N.S. HaHaHa, this is so funny...

I think all articles that mention a name, most of the time, if not always, mentions the city where they live and the age. It doesn't mean that that Star has something against the city. And those that say he worked at Target and was/is here illegally maybe know this guy and that's why they say it. I personally don't see what that has anything to do with what happened. Not like only illegals commit a crime. sounds like you people went out to these "car washes" and took a survey of who's here illegally and who's not. And I wonder what bebez_girl and bucknasty wrote that were deleted....

Hey, has anybody notice the jc has it out for Oxnard for some reason. Oxnard is the biggest Ventura County.

AnnaWhaat: I get your point--perhaps I oversold mine. I do know that illegal immigration will hijack any thread or blog period. No matter what the point of the article--throw in "Illegal Alien"--and the thread will soon transform into one like this one--and away from the original point. It bothers me--and I seldom respond as I did here--but I don't think it hurts to point out that illegal immigration is an incredibly complex issue.
