Seattle puts struggling Weaver on 15-day DL

The Seattle Mariners placed struggling right-hander Jeff Weaver of Simi Valley on the 15-day disabled list Friday, believing shoulder tendinitis may be at the root of his winless record and inflated ERA.

Seattle called up left-handed reliever Ryan Rowland-Smith from Triple-A Tacoma to take Weaver's roster spot.

Weaver has been a flop after signing a one-year, $8,325,000 contract to be the Mariners' No. 5 starter. He is 0-6 with a 14.32 ERA in six starts. In 22 innings, he has given up 50 hits and 35 earned runs.

It's the first time in his career Weaver has been placed on the disabled list.

Swisher, A's agree on a $26.75 million, five-year deal: Nick Swisher and the Oakland Athletics agreed on a $26.75 million, five-year contract that also includes a one-year club option for 2012.

Halladay has appendicitis, expected to miss 4-6 weeks: Former Cy Young Award winner Roy Halladay is expected to miss four to six weeks after having an emergency appendectomy, the latest bad break for the struggling Toronto Blue Jays.

Blue Jays infielder Troy Glaus left Friday night's game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays after just one at-bat when he suffered an apparent leg injury while running out a fly ball.

Braves' Cox ties Anderson in managerial wins: Atlanta's Bobby Cox tied Sparky Anderson for fourth place in career managerial victories when the Braves beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-1 on Friday night, Cox's 2,194th victory in the majors.

Cox has a 2,194-1,698 record in 26 seasons with the Braves and Toronto Blue Jays, whom he managed from 1982 to 1985 between stints with the Braves that began in 1978.

Arizona rookie infielder arrested for allegedly assaulting wife: The Arizona Diamondbacks placed infielder Alberto Callaspo on the restricted list without pay, a day after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his wife.

Marlins reliever Owens goes on DL: The Marlins put rookie reliever Henry Owens on the 15-day disabled list because of tendinitis in his right rotator cuff.
