Post office thief takes off with $800 in stamps

A burglar broke down the door to the Point Mugu Post Office at Naval Base Ventura County sometime between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning and stole about $800 worth of stamps, said base spokeswoman Teri Reid.

The thief also took about $60 from the cash register.

The burglar knocked the wooden post office door off its hinges and pried open the stamp vending machine, Reid said.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service and a Postal Service investigator are looking into the crime, she said.
