CHIVAS WIN CHAMPIONSHIP

California South Tournament

Highlights: Chivas The Simi Valley under-14 boys' team won the largest state cup tournament in the United States. Their final game was played against FC Barcelona Blue, a Los Angeles-based team, winning the title 2-0. The Chivas' bracket consisted of more than 100 teams throughout California competing to be the best in the state. The team members are Moises Olvera (goalie), Daniel Virgen, Omar Gutierrez, Gerardo Hernandez, Dylan Trujillo, Luis Gutierrez, Carlos Garcia, Ivan Cabanas, Ivan Zacarias, Jose Galindo, Freddy Sanchez, Rodrigo Perez, Erik Cubias and Cristian Covarrubias. Walter Mego is the coach and Luis Garcia is an assistant coach.

REAL CALIFORNIA FINISHES 4-2-2

Spring League

Highlights: Real California The under-13 boys finished the spring league with a 4-2-2 record. The boys began the weekend with a 7-0 victory over Cypress FC. The team ended with a hard-fought but losing effort to DBWV Soccer Club 3-2. The offense was led by Luis Reyna, Guillermo Che, Edwin Elizarrazaz , Connor Reed, Oscar Fletcher, Christian and Kieran Giammichele, Jared Borowitz, Tyler Klauza and Mark Kirby-Dempsey. The defense was led by Joe Spota, Tyler Erickson, Kyle Key, Tanner MacDonald, Matthew Scipione, Matthew Troske and goalkeeper Alonso Salinas. Real California scored 30 goals and allowed nine goals. The team is coached by Chris McGinty. This weekend the Real California boys will play in the first round of the Spring League Cup tournament in San Bernardino.

CONEJO VALLEY UNITED 2,

National Cup at Temecula

Highlights: Conejo Valley United The under-17 girls won the pool play game. Kristen Heffernan and Annie Jackson scored with assists by Olivia Geckle and Kendall Dreyer. Goalie Brooke Mandell played well.

VIPERS WIN CHAMPIONSHIP

Santa Clarita Showdown

Highlights: Ventura The Vipers defeated Granada Hills 2-1 to win the championship. In pool play, Ventura tied Canyon Country 1-1, defeated Saugus 1-0 and Rancho Cucamonga 1-0. Allowing only two goals, the defense was led by goalkeeper Ellie Sanders and assisted by Tori Adler, Hannah Langley, Sarah Crass, Laura Brown, Erin Houlberg, Leilani Polacek and Taylor Fitzpatrick. Offense and midfield play by Allison May, Angela Robles, Kaycee Hong, Maggy Elsousou, Tessa Calahan, Eden Praver, Paige Kilbourne and Grace Johnson. The team is coached by Lisa Powell and Ramon de la Rosa.

CONEJO RECREATION, THOUSAND OAKS AYSO ANNOUNCE AGREEMENT

The Conejo Recreation and Park District (CRPD) and the American Youth Soccer Organization Region 9 (AYSO) Thousand Oaks have had a long and successful history in partnering to provide soccer programs for the youth in the community at the soccer facilities at Conejo Creek South. In order to keep the relationship going, both organizations have agreed to enter in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the use of fields. "This is a great day for AYSO and the community," said Brigette Brazier, AYSO Region 9 Commissioner. "CRPD and AYSO have been working together for over thirty (30) years and have served over 60,000 kids. Not only have we solidified our relationship with the park district, we look forward to enhancing it with future achievements." The MOU provides AYSO first priority use of the soccer complex during their high use period of Aug. 1 to March 31. At all other times AYSO use is subject to CRPD priorities related to other community uses. Over the years, AYSO has contributed to the improvements at Conejo Creek South. The agreement ends April 18, 2017 with an option for AYSO to renew the MOU for 10 additional years, expiring April 18, 2027.

SOUTH COAST SUCCESS

Ventura County League

Highlights: South Coast The 12-and-under Red team won the league tournament championship. The 14-and-under Division I Red team finished second in the tournament at Ventura College. The summer league will start June 2 at Cal Lutheran. South Coast coaches are Stevie Blanchard, Lauren Markling, Kyle Ripley, April Coyle, Jordan Bouey, Cody Pletcher and Matt Warshaw.

CAMARILLO TITANS SPLIT GAMES

Ventura County League

Highlights: Camarillo Cameron Neely led with four goals in the 9-8 win over Gold Coast. Austin Thierry had three goals. Cole Baratte and Courtney Walters added goals. Alex Kahng had two assists and a steal. Joe Yamamoto had two steals. Ashley White, Adam Barker, Thierry and Neely had steals. Goalie Zac Womack had six saves and six steals. The Titans lost 6-5 in the third overtime against South Coast Red. Baratte had three goals and Cameron Neely and Courtney Walters added goals. Barker and Neely each had five steals and an assist. Yamamoto had two steals. Kahng had an assist and a steal. Thierry and Walters had steals. Womack had 11 saves and two steals.

Titans finish fourth

Ventura County League

Highlights: Camarillo The under-14 B team won three of four games to finish fourth in the tournament. The players are Brendan Kirk, Lucas Villa, Trevor Mulvany, Andrew Gonzalez, Doug Doria, Brittany Glass, Cory Morrison, Aubrey Larson, James Stych, Brett Wilcox and Kenny Harary. In the first game, the Titans defeated South Coast C 14-2.Villa and Glass each scored four goals. Gold Coast defeated the Titans 10-3. Golaue Harary had five saves. The Titans defeated South Coast B 8-4 in Game 3. Villa scored four goals and had two steals. Kirk, Mulvany, Stych and Wilcox added goals. Andrew Gonzalez had two assists. Mulvany and Gonzalez had two steals each. Harary had 10 saves. Camarillo won 10-7 over the Santa Barbara girls. Villa scored four goals.

TITANS FINISH 1-2

Ventura County League

Highlights: Camarillo The 14-and-under Division II team finished 1-2, losing to Gold Coast 11-10 in overtime, winning 10-7 over Malibu and losing 6-5 to the South Coast girls in overtime. The players are Daniel Aguilar, Wes Atkinson, Jacob Blackler, Victoria Carson, Troy Carson, Rogelio Coronado, Zak Deforest, Zyb Deforest, Nathaniel Freeman, Austin Navarro, Ben Pitt, Nicholas Ratekin, Titus Twyford, Kyle Walthall and Brian Adams.

SWIMMING

Buenaventura CLUB TO host

long-course opener

The Buenaventura Swim Club will host the Buenaventura long-course opener on Saturday and Sunday at the Ventura Aquatics Center on Kimball Road in Ventura. The swim meet will help kickoff the long-course season for club swimmers from throughout Ventura and Los Angeles counties. The two-day event is expected to draw 200 competitors, ages 6-18. Buenaventura will host the Age-Group Invitational on June 21-24, a regional meet for the Junior Olympics and sectionals.

BASEBALL

OAKS CHRISTIAN 10, CROSSROADS 2

Delphic Middle School League

Highlights: Oaks Christian The Lions improved to 7-1 as Eric Moersen led the attack with a homer and a single. Josh Davis had a double and a single. Travis Radke had two hits, C.J. Picerni and Tim Tyrell each had a double. Radke was the winning pitcher for Oaks Christian.

BASKETBALL

Breakers win title

Ventura Seaside Tournament

Highlights: Ventura The eighth-grade boys won the A Division championship. The players are Kyle Poe, Conner McGuire, Kurtis Collins, Kaybrum Evans, Sheldon Krall, Ryan Koevening and Dusty Neary. Coaches are Dean Poe and Dave McGuire. The Breakers are 3 overall and finished 14-0 in the Ventura County Conference. In other news, the Heat will host tournaments for boys' and girls' teams May 26-27 and June 16-17 at Ventura High. Divisions are high school to sixth-grade.
