Construction begins on assisted-living facility
Construction has started on a new center at the budding University Village Thousand Oaks, a community for people 62 and older on Campus Drive just north of California Lutheran University.
OakView, expected to open in early 2008 next to the village's independent-living campus, will be a 75,000-square-foot facility offering assisted living, Alzheimer's care and skilled nursing services for University Village residents and the public, according to the developer, Continuing Life Communities.
The assisted-living center will have 48 apartments for those needing daily assistance. Sixteen of the units will be in an Alzheimer's wing that will provide dementia care and a memory support program.
The center also will have a 48-bed skilled nursing facility with 24-hour nursing care and hospice and rehabilitative services.
Continuing Life Communities is a San Diego County-based corporation that develops and operates continuing-care retirement communities in California.
Meanwhile, construction is continuing on the independent-living campus at University Village. The first residents are scheduled to move in during late spring. A grand opening is planned for fall.
