Royals back out of Bradley deal
Kansas City's deal to acquire volatile outfielder Milton Bradley from Oakland fell through because the Royals were concerned about Bradley's health.
The Royals had agreed to send minor league pitcher Leo Nunez to Oakland for Bradley, who was designated for assignment on Thursday. Dean Taylor, Kansas City's assistant general manager, said the deal was scuttled because Bradley hurt his oblique during his last game with the Athletics.
Mourneau likely out a few more days: Minnesota Twins slugger Justin Morneau was expected to be released from the hospital Saturday following treatment for a bruised right lung that will likely sideline him for at least a couple of games.
Morneau was injured Friday in a collision with Marlins catcher Miguel Olivo and spent the night in the hospital.
Lieber out with ruptured tendon in foot: Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Jon Lieber, who left his last start after stumbling off the mound to cover home plate, is out indefinitely with a ruptured tendon in his foot.
Lieber said an MRI exam revealed the damage. Team medical personnel will examine Lieber on Monday in Philadelphia and decide whether surgery is required.
White Sox put Erstad back on DL, activate Podsednik: The Chicago White Sox put center fielder Darin Erstad back on the 15-day disabled list and activated Scott Podsednik from the DL.
Erstad re-injured his left ankle Friday, the same day he ended a stay on the DL that began June 1.
