Three injured when van strikes deputy's vehicle
A Ventura County sheriff's deputy and two other people suffered minor injuries when a minivan collided with a Sheriff's Department vehicle, police said Monday.
Mario Joaquin, Rosalind Evano and Deputy Vincente Grant were transported Sunday night to St. John's Regional Medical Center, where they were treated for their injuries, officials said. Grant had been released by Monday morning.
On Sunday night, Grant was responding to a report of a domestic disturbance and was traveling westbound on Stroube Street at about 10:27 p.m. when the crash occurred, said sheriff's Capt. Tim Hagel.
At the same time, a minivan driven by Joaquin was traveling southbound on Vineyard toward Stroube, police said. When the vehicles reached the intersection, they collided, and Grant's vehicle rotated 180 degrees, authorities said in a prepared statement.
The crash was an accident, and no citation was issued, Hagel said. However, police are continuing a standard investigation, said Sgt. Lisa Ragone of the Oxnard Police Department.
Oxnard police urge anyone who witnessed the accident to call Senior Officer Maria Pena, traffic investigator, at 385-7750.
