No one arrested? You're kidding right? Isn't discharging a firearm in a residential area a crime? Seems hard to believe that none envolved didn't have records and gang envolvement that would have made even being around a gun a felony.

desdave - isn't a brief interrogation enough? Shots were fired, which are fired throughout the county on any day. But because these shots were fired in "Colonia" it was a war zone. Nearing 4th of July I've noticed more gun activity, it's a part of the season.

Shell casings were found. No mention of any gun being found. Nobody was injured, or killed. Shots were fired...no one knows from where. No reason to arrest anyone.
Handcuffing potential suspects, although (in my opinion) a violation of rights, is standard operating procedure. It does not make them automatic suspects. I'm sure that if a gun had been found, someone would have gone to jail...gang-member or not.
Gun fire is common in and around Colonia...as well as other parts of the city, and county...at any time of the year, but especially this time nearing July 4. I know. I live in the surrounding area and hear the shots all the time. It's a wonder someone doesn't die from falling bullets.

I'm sorry but normal people don't shoot their guns in the air for no good reason. I don't care if it's the 4th of July or not. Who in their right mind thinks it's okay to discharge a firearm, in the air or anywhere in a residential area?

muddroute25 - no disrespect but do you honestly think that if a survey was done that the gang members would openly say, "oh yes, I'm part of a gang...thanks for asking?" Of course the vast majority would report NOT being in a gang.

Regardless, come on people, buy some sparklers or even fireworks in Fillmore and be done with it. Stop with the random gunfire. It's stupid, wrong, and dangerous.

It's my understanding that some idiots were arguing and started shooting where all the kids were playing ball, Why is this not mentioned, my son attended Green Valley daycare at Colonia park, and if he was still there i'd pull him out, I don't want my son getting shot by a stray bullet. They need to start foot and bike patrol again, if this shooting would of took place in a white area of the city, I bet OPD would be arresting everyone, and taking statement from every witness they could find. You know it's sad because it seems like the majority of officers are latinos who hate there own people, I'd rather deal with a white officer than a hispanic one anytime, they're to judgmental and assume the worst, but I don't care what they think of me, I'm a taxpayer and expect my kids to be protected just as much as the white kids.
