Oak View man killed in early morning accident
An Oak View man, who was a passenger in a pickup truck, was killed in an early morning accident Saturday in Ventura, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Diego Mercado, 19, was pronounced dead at Ventura County Medical Center. The driver, Eduardo Mercado, 38, survived with minor injuries. It was not clear whether the two are related.
Eduardo Mercado, also of Oak View, was transitioning from Highway 101 southbound to Highway 126 about 6:50 a.m. when he lost control of his truck. The truck veered across the transition road and eventually rolled down a brush-filled embankment.
Diego Mercado, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected onto the Highway 126 East Main Street onramp, according to the CHP.
Eduardo Mercado, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura but was released.
