Kruseman adds another Perris win to resume
Ventura's Cory Kruseman became the first three-time winner in the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA sprint car series at Perris Auto Speedway.
Kruseman, the reigning champion, passed Scotty Wier on the second lap and led the rest of the way to defeat Mike Spencer, Danny Sheridan, Blake Miller and Rickie Gaunt.
Camarillo's Josh Ford was 10th and Ventura's Jimmy Crawford was 14th.
Tony Jones leads the series with 1,038 points. Spencer is second with 906 points and Sheridan is third at 894. Kruseman is seventh with 657 points.
Kruseman will skip this weekend's race at Santa Maria for some much deserved time off at the Colorado River before returning to action with his team at Perris Auto Speedway June 23 and July 4.
"I gotta thank all the sponsors that help us out on this deal," said Kruseman. "Our plate (as team owner) has been full, but it just goes to show that if you get good parts and surround yourself with good people, that you're going to win some races.
"We've had some strange things happen this year, new team growing pains, I guess. But everyone on this team has worked hard and to have such a flawless car tonight is a testament to them."
Kruseman's team includes Michael Trimble and Alex Shutte. Trimble finished 15th at Perris. Shutte crashed in the B main.
Ventura Raceway: Greg Taylor (2,350 points), Kevin Kierce (2,260) and Luis Espinoza (2,015) lead the Ventura Racing Association sprint cars at the Ventura County Fairgrounds track. Rick Hendrix won last week's feature after appearing on the Ventura Raceway program cover.
Hendrix dominated the 30-lap main event, while VRA Rookie of the Year contender Johnathan Henry finished second.
Hendrix, who raced to a seventh-place finish in the USAC midget feature, had to come back to capture his first VRA career sprint car win in a 20-car field. Hendrix is sixth in points with 1,865 and has six top-five finishes and nine top-10 finishes.
The IMCA modifieds, dwarf cars and junior Focus midgets will round out the racing action. Gates open at 3 p.m. and junior racing starts at 3:30 p.m.
