Electric cellist in multi-media concert

Jami Sieber, an electric cellist and vocalist, will perform a solo concert at 8 p.m. today at Yoga Jones, 105 S. Oak St., No. 200, Ventura.

In 2001, Sieber traveled to Thailand and played with the Thai Elephant Orchestra. During that time, music became the bridge between Sieber and the elephants. Sieber comes to Ventura to share her music as well as the film and still images of the elephants she spent time with in Thailand.

Lavender festival comes to Ojai

The fourth Lavender Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Libbey Park in downtown Ojai. All things lavender will be celebrated. Taste lavender soda, sorbet, muffins and more.

Original artwork by David Dobeck of Ojai will be on display, and a Mediterranean marketplace will be open. Live entertainment will be part of the festivities. Admission is free to this outdoor event featuring more than 70 vendors offering herb- and flower-oriented art, crafts and food items, plus lavender plants for sale. Volunteers are needed. Nautica 2007 open through July

The contemporary art exhibit "Nautica 2007" continues through July 30 at the Ventura County Maritime Museum. The exhibit features sculpture, photographs, prints and paintings in a maritime theme by county artists.

The opening reception will honor the participating artists from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday.

The artists' prizes will be awarded at 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served, and the reception is free to the public.

The museum's permanent collection of historic ship models and maritime paintings feature work by 17th century Dutch painters, 18th century French P.O.W. models, as well as that of contemporary craftsmen and artists. The museum is in Channel Islands Harbor Fisherman's Wharf, 2731 S. Victoria Ave., Oxnard, and is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Entrance is free; donations are appreciated. Hike around river preserve set

Rich Handley, Ojai Valley Land Conservancy's preserve manager, will lead a 6-mile hike around the Wills-Rice Canyon loop trail on the Ventura River Preserve on Saturday. Participants will explore a variety of habitats including oak woodland and high country chaparral. The hike is moderately strenuous and will last four-plus hours. The hike will begin at 8 a.m. at the Riverview Trailhead on Rice Road in Ojai. Be sure to wear sturdy hiking boots and bring water. Attendees are asked to leave their pets at home. Summer concert series kicks off

The city of Agoura Hills Department of Community Services is hosting Summer Concerts in the Park. The series will kick off Saturday with The Platters. Night Fever will perform July 8, followed by fireworks; Jan & Dean, featuring Dean Torrence, will perform, July 22; and Desperado will perform Aug. 5. Concerts begin at 6 p.m. at the Chumash Park, 5550 Medea Valley Drive, Agoura Hills. All concerts are free.

Contra dance set at Ojai Art Center

The Ojai Art Center will hold a contra dance from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday at 113 S. Montgomery St., Ojai.

Lynn Ackerson will be calling, while Key Ingredients will play tunes, featuring Michael Mendelson on fiddle, Kurt MacInnis playing mandolin and Chris Cairns on guitar, mandolin and banjo.

An introductory lesson will be available at 7 p.m. All dances are taught and prompted; no partner is necessary.

Admission is $8; $7 for art center members.

Father's Day car show announced

The Father's Day Car Show will be held at Harborview Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. The event, presented by the Milestone Car Society of California in association with the Murphy Auto Museum of Oxnard, features an eclectic mix of custom cars, hot rods and classics from all over California. Attendees can expect to see such classics as the '57 Chevy and '64 T-Bird lined along the water's edge in Channel Islands Harbor.

There will be a variety of vendor displays and food booths, as well as musical entertainment and a 50/50 raffle for prizes. All proceeds from vendor and raffle sales will benefit local charities.

Masons dish up pancakes for dads

The Conejo Valley Masonic Lodge No. 807 will have a pancake breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Sunday at the Lodge Annex, 2786 Crescent Way in Thousand Oaks.

Cost is $5 and includes pancakes, sausage, eggs, coffee and juice.
