Two area players selected in MLB draft

More from Other NewsThe Marmonte League is known as a haven for baseball prospects, and two of its graduates were the first area players selected in Thursday's Major League Baseball draft.
Simi Valley pitcher Nick Barnese and Newbury Park outfielder Andrew Lambo were taken in the third and fourth rounds, respectively.
The Tampa Bay Devil Rays made Barnese the area's highest-drafted player with the 95th pick overall while Lambo will stay closer to home as the Los Angeles Dodgers selected him with the 146th pick.
The 6-foot-2 Barnese will have some local company in the Tampa Bay organization. The Devil Rays made Camarillo High graduate Delmon Young their top pick in the 2003 draft.
Barnese, who threw a no-hitter in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section playoffs, finished his senior season 5-3 with a 2.41 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 40 2/3 innings pitched.
The 6-foot-3 Lambo hit .453 with 30 RBIs, 36 runs scored and nine home runs this season.
