Moorpark man arrested for alleged weapons violations

A Moorpark man was arrested Monday after he allegedly brandished a handgun at California Department of Transportation workers, authorities said.

CalTrans employees called Moorpark police about 2 p.m. to report that a man in a Mercedes had waved a firearm at them while they were on Walnut Canyon Road in Moorpark, according to a statement from the department.

Sheriff's deputies found the described vehicle parked on the 300 block of High Street and arrested Jerry William Rice, 44.

Deputies found a .45 caliber Glock pistol, a metal pipe with an ice pick attached to it, a law enforcement badge, two kinds of gloves, night vision binoculars, tape and rope in the vehicle, according to the statement.

Rice was booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of brandishing a gun and possessing an illegal weapon.

By Tuesday morning he had been released on bail.

Oh, great ... they put him back on the street. I guess they have to wait until he USES the tape and rope, and the rest of his implements. I hope someone is assigned to keep an eye on him.
