Beckham won't be going to Dallas with Galaxy

CARSON — David Beckham will miss his third consecutive match when the Los Angeles Galaxy plays at FC Dallas tonight in the SuperLiga tournament, raising doubt whether he's make his Major League Soccer debut this weekend at Toronto.

"He's not out here, so he's obviously not going to Dallas with us," Galaxy coach Frank Yallop said during practice Monday.

Beckham has yet to train with the Galaxy because of an injured left ankle. He has been limited to a token appearance at a public training session July 16 and 16 minutes of playing time in a 1-0 exhibition loss to Chelsea on July 21.

Beckham missed SuperLiga matches against Pachuca on July 24 and Chivas on Saturday.

"He's very frustrated," Yallop said. "I feel for him, really, because he wants to get going. If it's up to him and it wouldn't hinder his injury, he would come with us (to Dallas). But because of flying, all of us said that he just can't do that. We want him to be getting ready to travel with us on Friday. That's the thing he's aiming for."

Yallop characterized Beckham as being "uncomfortable" rather than in pain. The midfielder's rehabilitation regimen includes cardiovascular work, tissue manipulation and friction massage, Yallop said.

"He's working very hard in the gym to keep his fitness up," Yallop said. "He's going to start running probably tomorrow so he can start to get on (his ankle) and really feel what it feels like."

Beckham turned the ankle on June 6 during England's 3-0 victory over Estonia in a European Championship qualifier. Yallop said Beckham played on painkillers in his last game with Real Madrid on June 17.

"I think it just basically stemmed from that. When you don't feel it, you know, you tend to swell up a little bit, and then he started to work on it right before he started to come back for us," the coach said. "He didn't feel any pain before but then he started to work out on it and it kind of blew up and was getting really sore."
