Simi Valley resident and LAPD officer killed in motorcycle crash on 101 freeway

A Simi Valley man was killed early Sunday when his motorcycle crashed in Los Angeles.

George Selleh, 52, was a detective and 29-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Selleh, who was off duty, was riding his motorcycle on the 101 Freeway near Highland Avenue about 3:40 a.m. when he came upon a crash that had occurred moments before when a car hit the center divider, according to police.

The vehicle was blocking two lanes of traffic and Selleh was unable to avoid it, police said. Selleh was ejected from his motorcycle.

Selleh, who was on his way to a movie set where he was providing security, died at the scene, California Highway Patrol spokesman Alex Delgadillo said.

Eleven vehicles were involved in a chain reaction crash that followed, according to police. The southbound side of the freeway remained closed late Sunday afternoon.

There were no other injuries, but a woman was taken to a hospital as a precaution, Delgadillo said.

Selleh is survived by his wife, a 20-year-old son, a 18-year-old daughter, Jessi, who is a guard for the Ventura College women's basketball team, and two sisters.

Selleh was most recently assigned to the Mission Area Narcotics Enforcement Detail as the supervising detective, according to the LAPD. He had worked in narcotics since 1990 and had been recognized as the supervisor of the quarter.

In an unrelated crash, a second officer's body was found around 10:30 a.m. some 10 miles north on the 101 Freeway. CHP officers noticed a car that had apparently driven off an embankment, Police Officer Mike Lopez said.

Investigators identified the body inside the vehicle as that of Los Angeles police officer David Rodriquez of Palmdale.

I feel I know Mike Selleh from all the nice things remembered about him from his loved ones. God must have a "special assignment" that requires the best angel of a cop! Although untimely departures from this earth are so painful for us left behind, I am positive Mike is among the saints in Heaven awaiting his earthly family to join him someday.
