THOUSAND OAKS

Communist country photos to be shown

California Lutheran University's Kwan Fong Gallery of Art and Culture will have photographs from communist countries on display, starting with an opening reception Aug. 18.

The reception will begin at 3 p.m. The exhibit will run through Sept. 22.

Current communist countries include Cuba and North Korea.

Photographers Brian Stethem and Morgan Alexander and philosophy professor Xiang Chen will present photos or make comments.

The gallery at the Thousand Oaks campus is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Admission is free.

Senior Concerns sets dining experience

Senior Concerns' 22nd annual Ultimate Dining Experience gourmet wine, dinner and fundraising auction will be Sunday at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza Hotel.

Six local chefs will produce a four-course dining experience, served with local and international wines.

The evening will begin at 5 p.m. with a wine tasting, martini bar and walk-around champagne. Silent and live auctions will include vacation getaways across the United States, a Gulf Stream G-450 sightseeing jet flight for a party of 14, a 14-carat tennis bracelet, tickets to special events and collectibles.

Proceeds will benefit Senior Concerns community-based services.

A drawing is being held in conjunction with the event, featuring a diamond pendant of 150 stones. The necklace may be viewed and tickets purchased at the Ben Bridge store in The Oaks mall. Tickets at $20 each are available by calling Senior Concerns at 497-0189.

Open house, sale set at satellite museum

The Museum of Ventura County's satellite location in The Oaks shopping center will have a free open house and sale Sunday featuring works from three local photographers.

The event will run from 1 to 3 p.m. The satellite location is open noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. It is on the upper level, at the northeast end.

Featured artists will be Roger Conrad of Ojai and Sharon Hardee and John C. Lewis, both of Newbury Park. Each artist will be available to talk about their work.

SANTA PAULA

Art exhibit to open at Oil Museum

The Santa Paula Society of the Arts will open an art exhibit Sunday at the California Oil Museum.

The exhibit, "Heritage Valley Impressions II," will open with a reception that will run from 1 to 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The museum is at 1001 E. Main St.

Featured works include those done in watercolor and pastel.

Admission will be $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and $1 for students.

MALIBU

Fundraiser is slated for wildlife center

The California Wildlife Center in the Santa Monica Mountains will host its seventh annual "Wing Ding" in an effort to raise $100,000 to go toward the rescue, rehabilitation and release of native Southern California wildlife.

The event will run from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 19 at Gull's Way Estate in Malibu, a 12-acre private home on the bluffs atop Latigo Shore Drive.

Tickets will cost $100 per adult and $40 per child under 12.

Reservations must be made by 2 p.m. Aug. 17.

Entertainment will include dancing and musical performances. There will be food and a silent auction.
