AGOURA HILLS

Training class for mature drivers set

The Agoura Hills Department of Community Services Senior Recreation Program is offering a Mature Drivers Training class.

The program is a defensive driving course for those 55 and over. It can help people qualify for reduced auto insurance rates. The one-day course will be from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Agoura Hills Recreation Center, 30610 Thousand Oaks Blvd. The cost is $12 for senior center registrants and $14 for non-registrants.

MOORPARK

Presentation set on transition strategies

A free presentation titled "Strategies for Life Transitions" is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Active Adult Center, 799 Moorpark Ave., Moorpark.

Therapists Dianne Meyer-Sasada and Michele Berry from Wellspring Counseling Group will lead the presentation. Berry will discuss common life transitions that seniors face and outline coping skills. Meyer-Sasada will lead an art project.

OXNARD

Bone Builders needs volunteers

RSVP and the Oxnard Senior Services Division are expanding their Bone Builders exercise program by adding classes and locations in Oxnard. Volunteers are needed to lead the free classes, which help prevent osteoporosis.

No experience is needed to be an instructor. Anyone 55 or older can learn to lead the class during a one-day workshop planned in early August.

A training manual and weights will be provided. A six-month commitment must be made to lead two one-hour classes per week.

VENTURA COUNTY

Power wheelchairs are available

The Senior Wheels USA Program makes available power electric wheelchairs to those 65 and older and the permanently disabled at no cost to recipients if they qualify.

Power wheelchairs are provided to those who cannot walk and cannot self-propel a manual wheelchair and who meet the guidelines of the program.

No deposit is required.

Donations of wheelchairs that are no longer needed are accepted.
