Pa Ventura

To everyone

Be sure to check Monday's Star for your complete guide to the 2007 Ventura County Fair, which starts Wednesday and runs for 12 fun-filled days and nights.

To Oxnard

There will be a hot time in your fair city, today and Sunday, with food, music and fun at the 14th annual Salsa Festival at Plaza Park downtown — and admission is free.

To taxpayers

It's welcome news that the biggest union of county employees has tentatively agreed to a new contract, without having to resort to a strike vote.

To Camarillo

How tasty is your fair city? You can find out on Sunday, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Taste of Camarillo party, at Camarillo Ranch — to benefit the Meadowlark Service League.

To sports fans

As if professional sports weren't dealing with enough scandals already, now we have allegations of a referee betting on NBA games he was working — and possibly determining the outcome.

To movie fans

Oxnard is really betting on you to fill a lot of movie theater seats in the future, and so far the bet hasn't paid off. The relatively new downtown movie complex reports having lost more than $618,000 in the past 13 months, with the city picking up $187,000 of that loss. And now the city has approved another new movie complex in the north end of town.

To historians

It's reassuring news that the Tower Theater building in downtown Santa Paula will be given new life, but as what? We're only told that it won't be as a movie theater.

To Cal Lutheran

What's this? Your new president resigns after less than a year on the job? That certainly calls into question the screening process used to hired him.

To Simi Valley

Today, your fair city is the scene for one of the more intriguingly named events, the Rhythm & Brews Festival, mixing music and beer, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Corriganville Park.

To readers

To get an idea of how popular the latest Harry Potter novel was when it went on sale, it was selling at the rate of 5,000 books a minute.

To cyclists

Are French officials determined that any non-French cyclist winning the Tour de France will be discredited because of drugs?

To students

Today, from 9 a.m. to noon, the University of California Hansen Agricultual Center will kick off a "Saturday at the Farm" monthly series, at Faulkner Farm in Santa Paula.

To wannabe cowboys

In case you didn't know, today is officially National Cowboy Day. The most appropriate way to celebrate is by watching an old western movie.
