Ventura County sheriff's deputies Thursday arrested seven suspects in connection with a drive-by shooting the night before in El Rio.
Witnesses told deputies the occupants of a white minivan fired several shots at a couple sitting in their car about 11:10 p.m. Wednesday in the 2800 block of Cortez Street, sheriff's Capt. Monica McGrath said. Neither the man, 29, nor the woman, 31, was injured.
The couple described the vehicle to deputies and said it fled toward Oxnard. Deputies found a vehicle matching the description at a hangout near the Pacific Coast Highway and Deer Creek Road south of Point Mugu about 1:43 a.m. Thursday, McGrath said.
The vehicle had been reported stolen in Oxnard, and deputies found a .45-caliber handgun in the minivan and arrested all seven occupants, she said.
Six were male teens, ages 15 to 17, all from Oxnard. The seventh was Jorge Garfias, 19, of Oxnard, authorities said.
Sheriff's officials were investigating whether the shooting was gang-related, McGrath said. The couple told deputies they did not know the shooters or why they were apparently targeted.
McGrath said cooperation from witnesses helped deputies find the vehicle quickly. "It's really important when people call in as witnesses that we get good vehicle descriptions so we can follow up," she said.

Send them to Irag is the most rediculous thing I have heard. We have good men over there that WANT to fight for our country. Sending men (punks) like this over to fight in a war and cover your brother or sons back as he crosses the field, do you really want them there? They do not want to be there and they will scour in the bushes. That is not who I would want covering my back or my relatives back while in a war.........

I hope they lock these guys up. They have already proven to be a waste to society at such a young age.
