Fair program to begin Wednesday
Ventura Raceway will be off this weekend, but will return with a big bang on Wednesday and Thursday nights with the Ventura County Fair races. Racing starts at 6 p.m.
Sean McKinney was the demolition derby champion on the first night of the 2006 fair. McKinney shared the crown on the second night with Kohdy Harper.
The Ventura Racing Association sport compacts, dwarf cars, NMRA TQ midgets and kids' racing will highlight the opening night. Joel Chavez leads the field in the sport compacts. Greg Raap is the defending fair race winner.
Randal Dougan won last week's sport compact race in a race without a yellow caution flag.
The IMCA modifieds, Ford Focus midgets and junior midgets will be in action Thursday.
Eric Evans won the IMCA feature last summer. Brian Saxton (pro) and John Lynch (senior) were the dwarf car champions at the fair. Bobby Michnowicz was the Ford Focus winner.
Paid admission to the Ventura County Fair allows everyone to watch the motorsports show.
Ventura Raceway scorekeeper Scott Holder reports the points weren't updated after Saturday's win by Eric Severson. Greg Taylor leads with 3,070 points. Kevin Kierce (2,910), Luis Espinoza (2,635), Dennis Rodriguez (2,475) and Rick Hendrix (2,355) are in the top five. Severson (2,130) is sixth.

Sprint week: Ventura's Cory Kruseman finished the Indiana Sprint Week with a 12th-place finish in the July 21 race at Haubstadt. He was fourth in his heat and qualified 19th.
A night earlier in Bloomington, he qualified 22nd and finished 18th in the 30-lap feature.
After seven races in Indiana, Kruseman heads to Paducah International Speedway in Kentucky to race in the Midwest Sprint Car Series.

Irwindale racing: Tim Huddleston of Agoura Hills won the 40-lap Auto Club Late Models Feature at Irwindale Speedway. Dan DiGiacomo of Dana Point was second. Huddleston won his third feature and passed Michael Wright on the 19th lap for the lead. Brian Jones of Thousand Oaks was third.
Darren Young of Gilbert, Ariz., won the 50-lap ASA Speed Truck Challenge. Andrew Allen of Garden Grove was second in the 21-truck race.
Lancaster's Andrew Anderson, 14, won the 15-lap Bandoleros feature. Brianna Holley, 14, of Las Vegas, was second.
Matthew Hicks of Santee won the 40-lap King Taco Super Trucks feature. Ray Robinson of Rancho Cucamonga was second and Simi Valley's John Israel was fourth. Twenty trucks were in the race.
Alta Loma's Tom Landreth won the 35-lap Legends Car feature. Darren Amidon of Santee was second.
Saturday's Irwindale program will feature the AC Delco Super Late Models, King Taco Super Trucks, Vista Paint Super Stocks and USAC K&N Ford Focus Midgets. Billed as "The Dog Days of Summer," racing fans can purchase two tickets for the price of one.
Huddleston is the points leader in Late Models with 384. Jace Meier of Las Vegas is second at 366. Jones is eighth with 280 and Doug McComb is 10th with 268. Scott Jenkins of Agoura Hills is 14th with 240.
Rip Michels of San Fernando leads the AC Delco Super Late Models with 488 points. Travis Thirkettle of Newhall is second with 482. Simi Valley's Andrew Phipps is third with 454.
Ron Davis of Norwalk is the BG Products Pure Stocks leader with 346. Chad Kelley of Calabasas is fourth with 278. Simi Valley's Rick Crow is 10th with 100.
Pat Mintey Jr. of Quartz Hill is the leader in the King Taco Super Trucks with 374 points. John Israel of Simi Valley is fifth with 278.
Newbury Park's Jeff Williams is the West Coast Pro Trucks series leader with 98 points. David Timewell of Santa Barbara is fourth with 78 points. Ventura's Ed Cutler is eighth with 64 and Goleta's James Weston is 13th with 44.
In the Vista Paint Super Stocks series, Riverside's Bryan Harrell is first with 392 points. Darren Cheek of San Bernardino is second with 390. Camarillo's Julianne Seeley is seventh with 270. Crow has 80 points for 17th.
Long Beach racers Steve Stewart and Rusty Stewart lead the Pick Your Part Figure 8 racing with 182 points. Simi Valley's Don Rogers is sixth with 124.
Amidon is the Legends Car leader with 378 points.
