If Barry does it in L.A., FSN Prime will be ready

Prepare for an awkward moment.

That's what FSN Prime Ticket is doing in case Barry Bonds is unable to break Hank Aaron's home run record during the Giants' current homestand in San Francisco and breaks it instead next week on the road.

At Dodger Stadium.

Prime would show the Tuesday and Thursday games between the Dodgers and the Giants with KCAL (Channel 9) showing the Wednesday game. If Bonds still hasn't passed Aaron by next week, Prime plans some special coverage. It includes a segment during Tuesday's "Dodgers Live" pregame show featuring an interview with Jeff Kent in which the Dodgers second baseman shares some thoughts on Bonds, his former teammate. The interview is from an upcoming "In My Own Words" program the network is planning to show next month.

FSN also plans to have a roaming camera focusing on Bonds' every move the entire game (that should be entertaining) and if Bonds hits No. 756 in L.A., Prime will also cover a postgame ceremony in front of the visitors' dugout with commissioner Bud Selig, which strangely enough isn't scheduled to start until a full 25 minutes after the game is over.

The picture of baseball's most cherished record being broken and the crowd showering the man who broke it with boos (and perhaps booze) would be surreal.

Something you can celebrate: If you're looking for a happier baseball thought, tune into ESPN Classic at 10:30 a.m. Sunday to see Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken Jr. inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Prior to that, starting at 9, there will be "Classic Conversations" programs with each player and after the ceremony, ESPN Classic will show the game in which Ripken broke Lou Gehrig's consecutive games record and the game in which Gwynn got his 3,000th hit.

Other notes: As ESPN prepares to take over Nextel Cup coverage this weekend, it's worthwhile to note Fox's NASCAR ratings were up 2.9 percent this season with the addition of the Daytona 500 to its schedule, even though Fox's Daytona rating was down 10.6 percent from NBC's last year. According to Sports Business Daily, TNT's six races were down 5.2 percent in ratings from its eight races last year. NBC has hired Mike Milbury to be an NHL studio analyst next season and also said Pierre McGuire will host its pregame show. Brett Hull left the network after one season to join the Dallas Stars front office and NBC is not bringing back Bill Clement.

Those interested in seeing a sport completely implode can watch the final stage of the Tour de France at 4:30 a.m. Sunday on Versus with a recap at 10 a.m. on KCBS (Channel 2). FSN Prime Ticket will debut an "In My Own Words" program on Dodgers center fielder Juan Pierre at 10:30 p.m. Thursday. We've lost another of sports broadcasting's greats. Bill Flemming, who did everything from college football to cliff diving for ABC, died last Friday at 80. Flemming, who joined ABC Sports in 1961, covered 11 Olympics, more than 600 events for "ABC's Wide World of Sports."
