Osterloh defeats Bartoli at Bank of the West

Lilia Osterloh rebounded from a tough first set to beat second-seeded Marion Bartoli 5-7,6-4, 6-3 on Wednesday night to advance to the quarterfinals of the Bank of the West Classic at Stanford.

In her fifth appearance at the event, Osterloh reached the quarters for the second time and the first in six years by beating the Wimbledon finalist.

Third-seeded Daniela Hantuchova, seventh-seeded Katarina Srebotnik, and eighth-seeded Sybille Bammer also won.

Dancevic advances, but Fish forced out with injury: Canadian Frank Dancevic defeated Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 in the Indianapolis Tennis Championships to reach his first ATP quarterfinals since turning pro in 2003.

The 22-year-old, who got into the tournament as an alternate, had 17 aces, the last coming on his third match point. He is the first Canadian to reach the quarters of an ATP event since Feb. 24, 2001, when Sebastien Lareau reached the semifinals in Memphis.

His next match will be against Igor Kunitsyn of Russia, who advanced when No. 4 Mardy Fish had to retire after injuring his left knee late in losing the opening set 6-4. After an injury timeout, Fish tried to play the second set and retired after losing the first point.

Top-seeded Andy Roddick, a two-time winner here, defeated Evgeny Korolev 6-3, 6-2.

Top-seeded Schiavone eases past Gagliardi: Top-seeded Francesca Schiavone beat Emmanuelle Gagliardi of Switzerland 6-0, 6-4 in the first round of the Gastein Ladies at Bad Gastein, Austria.

Top-seeded Djokovic ousted by qualifier Troicki: Top-seeded Novak Djokovic lost to qualifier Viktor Troicki 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 in an all-Serbian second-round match at the Croatia Open at Umag.

Until this week, Troicki hadn't won an ATP match this year. The 176th-ranked player pulled off the biggest win of his career in his first meeting with No. 3 Djokovic, a three-time tour winner this season and a semifinalist at Wimbledon and the French Open.

Djokovic, also a finalist in this tournament last year, had a chance of squeezing out a victory in the third set when Troicki missed a match point at 5-1. Djokovic got even at 5 but couldn't hold the momentum.

Djokovic retired with a finger blister in the semifinals at Wimbledon and earned his 100th singles victory in the first round at Umag.

In the quarterfinals, Troicki will face Carlos Berlocq, who defeated Victor Hanescu of Romania 6-7 (13), 6-4, 6-2.

Former champion Guillermo Canas of Argentina won a seventh straight match in Umag when he defeated Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo of Spain 6-4, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals.
