Nonprofit agency to open rehab center for women
A Ventura-based nonprofit agency will start operating an Oxnard residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation center for women in September.
In a unanimous vote Tuesday night, the Oxnard City Council awarded a lease to Miracle Recovery Centers to operate 25 beds at a newly renovated house.
The defunct Rainbow House Recovery Center was originally set to run a similar program at 1450 S. Rose Ave., but the nonprofit group went out of business this year. The city had invested about $1.9 million in renovating the facility for Rainbow House.
In a report last month, city staff members recommended that Miracle House, among a field of three candidates, serve as the operator. But council members balked, asking staff members to negotiate with all three agencies.
The other agencies were Lighthouse Women & Children's Mission, and Services United Inc., both of Oxnard.
Miracle House again emerged as the top candidate. It will pay the city $2,000 a month in rent. Priority will go to women from Oxnard.

YAY!! I am so pleased that Miracle House received this property! There is no better program that is better equipped to serve this particular under represented population than Miracle House Inc. They truly have an angel watching over them. Congratulations Ladies and Godspeed!!!
