Leinart disputes mother's claim
Matt Leinart reacted to criticism of his parenting skills Tuesday with a statement to People magazine.
Leinart was responding to a story Sunday in The Star in which Brynn Cameron, the mother of the pair's 8-month-old son Cole Cameron Leinart, criticized the former USC quarterback and member of the Arizona Cardinals.
"I love Cole more than anything or anyone," Leinart told People. "I also really care about his mom and would never say anything disparaging about her. I want to help him experience life's lessons that were taught to me by my mom and dad."
On Sunday, Cameron said Leinart's statements to the media about spending time with Cole were untrue.
"It's kind of hard for me as the mom — I'm with Cole probably 99.9 percent of the time — to open a magazine or read a newspaper article with Matt saying I love being a dad. I love changing diapers. I love doing this. I'm like Wait, what?' " said Cameron, who added, "I don't know how he is about this, but it's been hard when I'm doing all the work, but he gets all the credit for it."
Leinart disputed Cameron's claims in his statement.
"Regardless of the allegations made, I have gone to great lengths to increase my custodial time with Cole," he says. "This includes seeking intervention from the family law court."
Leinart seemed mystified by the source of Cameron's frustration.
"I don't know if Cole's mother is motivated by anger or by financial gain," he said, "but it is my sincere hope that one day we will be able to effectively co-parent our son who we both love very much."
Cameron's comments about Leinart launched a flurry comments on the Internet, including the Deadspin blog and Bruins Nation, a blog for UCLA fans.
Newspapers nationwide have picked up Cameron's comments, including the Detroit Free Press, Chicago Sun-Times and Arizona Republic.
