Body of missing man recovered

The body of a Quartz Hill man who had been missing for more than two weeks after he jumped into Lake Piru was found Tuesday, the Ventura County Sheriff's Department reported.

Victor Carrasco, 31, was boating with his family July 5 when he jumped into the water without a life preserver to retrieve something that had fallen in, Capt. Jerry Hernandez said in a prepared statement.

The body was found floating in the lake Tuesday about 1:20 p.m., and lake rangers removed it, Hernandez said.

Deputy Medical Examiner Michael Tellez, with the Ventura County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office, said an autopsy is scheduled for this morning.

Officials said Carrasco's family tried to rescue him. For the first few days, sheriff's authorities searched the lake using a helicopter, divers and sonar equipment. The search was scaled back on July 8.

I go to this lake often. There has been many deaths in this lake, a few actually when I worked there. I could not imagine having to drive home without one of my family members. I was there the day after he drowned and to see his family sitting there waiting and hoping that they would find him was heart wrenching. My heart goes out to the family, God bless you.

Finding him doesn't bring him back, but at the very least I hope it helps the family begin to heal from their loss. I too go their often and couldn't even image something like this happening. My prayers continue to be with the family.

Kelly has taken Victor back to AZ. To be w/ their son, Victor Jr. who passed over 10 yrs ago. Those were his wishes, to be in the same cemetery where he was buried.
As for all the questions about the accident, we all don't know. The 2 people that were w/ him are still in shock and we cannot get full details. But his autopsy results were as “he simply drowned”. Everyone who knew him or was close to him doesn't understand how this happened. He was a good swimmer, was in good shape & health. It doesn't make sense. All we can make of it is that it was his time and God takes who he needs for a reason. Kelly is still grieving but remains strong for her 3 girls.
Here are the details on the wake & funeral:

SUNDAY 7/29 @ 6PM-8PM (WAKE)
Thompson Valley West Funeral Home
926 S. Litchfield
Goodyear, AZ

MONDAY 7/30 @ 9AM (BURIAL)
Holy Cross Cemetery
10045 W. Thomas Rd.
Avondale, AZ

Csolis, thanks for your update. Finally a degree of closure for the family. Our prayers continue for the family, and especially for Kelly and her three beautiful girls. If you have opportunity, please let them know that they are in our thoughts and prayers. If a trust fund has been set up for the girls or a donations account, would you please post that information? Thanks,

Chaplain Randy

I was hoping that his full obituary would have appeared in the paper. For those of us that went to grade & high school with Victor, we would have loved to have a current picture of him for our up coming reunions.

warrioraquatics, I need the name on that account, a phone number for Washington Mutual Bank, and the name of someone in supervision or management there that can verify the purpose of this account. Until I verify that information, I have no way of knowing that the this account is for the stated purpose. Thanks.
