Nellie McKay delves into her new album
Singer Nellie McKay is photographed in The Dublin Pub in New York, in this Dec. 15, 2005 photo. Two of this fall's album releases almost never saw the light of day. Hip-hop duo Clipse's acclaimed "Hell Hath No Fury" was delayed for years by label hell, while Nellie McKay's "Pretty Little Head" was released independently after a public feud with Columbia Records last year. Singer/songwriter Nellie McKay has retreated to a studio in the Pocono Mountains of northeast Pennsylvania to record her new album, "Obligatory Villagers." The nine-track set is due Sept. 25 via the artist's Hungry Mouse label.
Among collaborators are jazz veterans Phil Woods and David Liebman, and vocalist Bob Dorough, best known for his work with the "Schoolhouse Rock" cartoons.
"Obligatory Villagers" is the follow-up to last year's "Pretty Little Head." McKay has no tour dates scheduled.
