Sagebrush Cantina to host fight night

The Sagebrush Cantina in Calabasas will host a Thursday night boxing show featuring three Oxnard products.

Oxnard's Keith Spencer (2-0), "Dangerous" David Rodela (6-2-1) and Xavier Garcia, nephew of former world champion Robert Garcia, will be making his pro debut. Also on the 7 p.m. card will be John Molina (7-0) of Covina.

The Sagebrush Cantina is located at 23527 Calabasas Road, Calabasas.

Real SoCal boys defend national title

The Real SoCal boys' under-16 club team begins its quest for a third straight United States Youth Soccer National Championship in Frisco, Texas, on Wednesday,

The West Region champion will play the FC Delco Hammerheads of Pennsylvania on Wednesday morning at 5:30 a.m. PDT. The Real SoCal team will play the Michigan Wolves on Thursday at 7:30 a.m., and Friday's game for Real SoCal will be against the Houstonians at 5:30 a.m. The tournament championship will be Saturday at 7:30 a.m.

Leading the Real SoCal charge are Norberto Rodriguez, an All-Marmonte League first-team selection this past season as a Thousand Oaks High junior; Russell Jackson, an All-Marmonte League first-team player from Thousand Oaks as a sophomore; and Michael Uyehara, All-Marmonte League player from Agoura High as a sophomore.

Other Ventura County players include Juan Valladolid, Michael Roman, Jake Bernstein and Luis Gil.

Rounding out the SoCal roster is Elmer Avelar, Ernest Balba, Jeremy Castro, Christopher Cummings, Tyler Lunde, George Pantelic, Alexander Racca, Evan Raynr, Nicholas Rihn, Christian Vazquez and Zachary Zerrenner.

Eagles soar: The Eagles Soccer Club of Camarillo will be seeking its second United States national championship since 2004. The under-17 Eagles will play the Michigan Hawks Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Frisco, Texas. The Eagles play the Richmond Strikers on Thursday at 7:30 a.m. and the Dallas Texans on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The girls' championship game will be Sunday morning.

Five of the Eagles are recent graduates from high school and have made college commitments.

Local players who have committed include: Camarillo's Nicole Sweetman, Oaks Christian and UCLA; and Erin Cressy, Buena and Kansas.

Other local players who are scheduled to graduate in 2008 and have committed to colleges are: Amelia Mathis, Buena and UCLA; Kaitlin Paletta, Moorpark and UC Berkeley; Haley Wilson, Ventura and Oregon; Camarillo's Kelsea Smith, Oaks Christian and Pepperdine; Kelsey Owen, Nordhoff and Dayton; Megan Blankenburg, Ventura and Fresno State; and Camarillo's Sidney Garza, Buena and St. Marys.

Nordhoff's Gracie Gartell and Camarillo's Lindsay Armenta (Rio Mesa) have not made college commitments.
