Saticoy eliminated from SoCal tournament

The Saticoy Junior Little League All-Stars lost a wild 15-14 elimination game on Sunday in the Southern California Tournament at Palmdale.

Saticoy, the District 63 and Section 1 champion, had a 12-2 lead in the third inning, but couldn't hold off La Mirada. Saticoy was coming off 17-7 opening-game loss to South Pasadena on Saturday.

Saticoy's Drew Jacobs hit two homers while Tyler Rodarte, Jacob Gomez and Roger Reyes added homers in the two games. Rodarte had three hits on Sunday and Eric Flores had two hits in La Mirada game.

Montalvo ends run: The 11-12-year-old Montalvo team, District 63 and Section 1 champions from Ventura, dropped a 7-2 elimination game against West Los Angeles. Montalvo ended the summer with a 10-2 record.

Montalvo Little League president Chris Russell said he was proud of the how his team reached the Southern California North-Sub Divisional at La Mirada. West Los Angeles plays Tustin Western in an elimination game on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Four teams remain the La Mirada tournament. Five other section champions are playing at Chollas Lake in San Diego. The North and South bracket champions will play Saturday at 1 p.m. at La Mirada's Auslan Stadium at Behringer Park. The championship game will be Sunday at noon. The Southern California champion advances to the Western Regional at San Bernardino. Information: www.unpage.com.

Thousand Oaks rained out: The Thousand Oaks Big League team will play Northern California this morning at Bremerton, Wash., in a championship-bracket semifinal game. Today's winner plays Tuesday at 9 a.m. for the championship.

El Rio falls: The El Rio Senior League team (15-16) dropped a 10-0 decision to San Carlo in the Southern California Tournament at San Juan Capistrano. Three years ago, El Rio lost to Chino Hills at Yucaipa and came back by beating Chino Hills for the championship on its way to advancing to the Senior League World Series in Bangor, Maine. El Rio plays Tuesday at 7 p.m. in an elimination game.

Newbury Park eliminated: The 11-12-year-old PONY Bronco team eliminated East Long Beach on Saturday night in the Regional Tournament at Walnut. Austin Mason was the winning pitcher.

Tournament host Walnut defeated Newbury Park 7-2 for the second loss in two days.

Newbury Park's Austin DeMaille and Casey Hershfield hit doubles.

Devil Rays win title: The Oxnard Devil Rays won the 18-and-under Palomino PONY Regional championship at Redlands on Sunday. Richard Stock of Agoura hit a three-run homer to highlight a nine-run sixth to cap a 10-5 win over defending champion Riverside.

Paul Tremlin pitched a complete game.

Andrew Paluta pitched a perfect game in a 10-0 win over Cathedral City. Stock and Trevor Bloom homered in a 10-5 win over Hesperia. Tim Johnston added a two-run homer in a 4-2 win over Riverside. Stock hit three homers in the tournament as the Devil Rays (7-1) advance to the West Zone Tournament starting Friday at noon in Santa Clara. The World Series will be held at Rancho Cucamonga.

Conejo Oaks players named to all-tournament team: Four members of the Conejo Oaks summer collegiate baseball team were honored for their play in the Rawlings California Cup Summer Baseball Tournament by making the all-tournament team.

Infielder Matt Aiden, outfielder Trevor Davidson, pitcher Kevin Gelinas and catcher Chris Hannick made the all-tournament team.

Conejo took second place in the tournament held July 11-15 at UC Santa Barbara and qualified for the National Baseball Congress World Series at Wichita, Kan., in August. However, Oaks will not be playing in the NBC series because of a lack of sufficient funds.
