Man found dead in crashed car

The body of an Ojai resident was found Tuesday inside a vehicle that crashed between Santa Paula and Ojai.

A passer-by reported finding the vehicle about 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The driver had been reported missing earlier Tuesday to Ojai police and had last been seen by family members on Sunday around 11 p.m., officials said.

The California Highway Patrol reported Tuesday that the vehicle was westbound on Highway 150 from Santa Paula at Dennison Grade when it crossed over double yellow lines into the eastbound lanes.

The vehicle hit an asphalt curb, causing it to careen over an embankment, hitting trees and rolling several times, landing on its roof, according to the CHP.

Officers reported that the driver, whom they would not name, was not wearing a seat belt.

At the scene of the crash on Tuesday afternoon, the Ventura County Fire Department pronounced the driver dead from blunt force trauma.

Traffic was stopped while the vehicle was retrieved from the embankment.

I am sorry for the family of this individual, but no seatbelt on Ojai-Santa Paula Road? It is a dangerous road and it may not have saved him afterall, but he would have had a chance. That is two articles in today's paper of Ventura County residents killed in single car crashes who wer NOT wearing seat belts. You can draw your own conclusions from this violation of the California Motor Vehicle Code.

This is a sad story. My prayers go out to this mans family and friends.
And PLEASE always wear your seatbelts. Although he may not have passed away on impact and tried to remove it himself and get out. We dont know. My condolences and prayers !!!!

wow. i remember in high school when my then boyfriend (now husband) tried passing someone on that road (STUPID) and ended up down the embankment there. Everyone luckily was alive but one young lady wasnt wearing her seatbelt was not as OK as everyone else. you have to be careful on that road and to not wear a seat belt is just.....dangerous. My heart and prayers are with this mans family and friends!!
