Compton: Refills may be ordered through Internet site
Q. I have been having a difficult time contacting the VA to renew my prescriptions.
Is there a way to order refills with my computer?
A. Use http://www.myhealth.va.gov to refill your prescriptions.
That site covers many areas of healthcare from the VA.
Eventually you will be able to schedule appointments there.
Q. I understand that dependents of active duty military personnel are eligible for education benefits from the VA.
Is that true?
A. Public Law 109-461, which became effective in December of last year, did allow dependents of active duty personnel to use Chapter 35 for education benefits, but the eligibility requirements are very limiting.
There are three criteria for the program:
n VA must determine that the service member has a service-connected permanent and total disability.
n At the time of VA's determination, the service member is hospitalized or receiving outpatient medical care, services or treatment.
n Is likely to be discharged or released from service for this service-connected disability.
Q. My husband served in Vietnam and he has had many health problems since then that I believe were caused by Agent Orange.
How can I get him help?
He has a claim number with the VA.
A. Your husband is rated 10 percent disabled by the Veterans Administration and has not been receiving compensation because the VA does not have a current address.
With the 10 percent rating he is in Priority Group 3 and is eligible for free medical care.
Have your husband contact this office and we will assist him in taking advantage of his benefits and discuss those conditions that are presumptive to Agent Orange.
