T.O. Big Leaguers blank Riverside to reach final

The Thousand Oaks Big League all-stars are rolling in the Southern California State Championship Tournament at Ruth Caruthers Park in Bellflower.

The reigning 18-and under World Series champions earned a 10-0 mercy win over Riverside in a six-inning game Friday night.

Matt Bywater pitched four perfect innings. Tyler Peddicord pitched a perfect fifth inning and Andres Ceja closed the sixth, allowing just one hit. Bywater registered seven strikeouts and Thousand Oaks recorded nine in the game.

A six-run third inning helped Thousand Oaks advance to Sunday's 3 p.m. championship game in the 18-and-under Little League tournament. Riverside and East Anaheim will play in today's elimination game at 4 p.m.

Brett Fick had a two-run triple in the third inning for Thousand Oaks. Kyle Jones had two hits, including a two-run homer in the fifth. Stephan Notaro had two hits, an RBI and scored once. Nick Schwarz had two hits and scored twice.

Ty Muller hit a two-run double in the third inning. Muller had two hits and drove in three runs.

Thousand Oaks (3-0) opened the tournament last week with a 9-1 win over Bloomington and was coming off a 5-0 win over East Anaheim on Tuesday.

Thousand Oaks is a win away from advancing to next week's Big League West Regional Tournament in Ollala, Wash. The tournament runs July 19-24 with the champion advancing to the Big League World Series in Easley, S.C., July 28-Aug. 4.
