Unattended luggage spurs airport bomb scare
A suspicious package that caused a bomb scare Thursday at the Oxnard Airport was actually a small piece of luggage, authorities said.
The package was discovered about 6:25 a.m. by a Transportation Security Administration officer, Oxnard police spokesman David Keith said.
The airport was closed, and Oxnard police diverted traffic at Fifth Street and Patterson Road while the Sheriff's Department Bomb Squad evaluated the package, Keith said.
The squad X-rayed the item and found it contained no explosives. The shaving kit-type package was full of personal hygiene items, authorities said.
The airport and surrounding roads were open again by 9 a.m., Keith said. Commercial air operations were not interrupted.
