Navy housing plan moves a step closer
The Camarillo City Council has approved several steps needed by the Navy for a possible housing project at Catalina Heights.
The council voted 4-0 Wednesday night to introduce an ordinance to change the zoning for the area, which is south of Las Posas Road and west of Rosewood Avenue. Councilwoman Charlotte Craven was absent.
The ordinance could be adopted at the council's July 25 meeting. If approved, the zoning would be changed from single-family residential to allow 10 units per acre. The change would give the Navy greater flexibility in designing new homes.
The 50-acre Catalina Heights site has 315 units of military housing. The Navy is considering building new housing at the site.
The council Wednesday also approved a negative declaration for the project, meaning that no significant environmental impacts are expected.

How about they build the new homes on all the open land that the car manufacturers are parking their cars on at Port Hueneme. Keep non-military long shoremen from accessing the base and tighten the security around the port. Keep the military on military owned property to lower their cost of living. The military will take their 100% of their BAH no matter where they live anyway. This is just another way for the govt. to make money from servicemembers. I bet KBR will be building the homes for a fraction of the cost they will bill the Navy.

The navy has a long history in Camarillo and is still it's largest employer. If they want to rebuild the ugly houses that are in the current naval housing, I think it's a great idea.
As for security, Port Hueneme is not the tightest of bases, nor will it ever be. Construction battalions aren't exactly working with top secret things. Thats left for Pt. Mugu, which is a lot tighter and a lot harder to get on.

Are the homes that exist on Pt Mugu at high-occupancy?
