Montalvo 11-12-year-olds capture District 63 title

The Montalvo Little League 11-12-year-old all-stars defeated tournament host Goleta Valley South 3-2 Wednesday night to capture the District 63 championship.
Montalvo was 4-0 in pool play and defeated Fillmore 14-2 in the opening round of the double-elimination championship bracket.
Goleta Valley lost to Santa Paula 3-2 and then eliminated Santa Paula 11-2 on Tuesday night to reach the championship game. Goleta Valley was the defending champion.
It is Montalvo's first District 63 championship since 1994.
Montalvo advances to the Section 1 Tournament at Nipomo Little League on Saturday. The opening game will be at 1 p.m. against two-time defending Section 1 champion Moorpark.
Moorpark earned its third straight District 13 title Wednesday night with a 5-4 win over Thousand Oaks American in seven innings at Moorpark.
The Montalvo all-stars are Phil Bickford, Wesley Dodge, Nathaniel Palace, David Corral, Dane Frederick, Cameron McDaniel, Chance Dingman, Bradley Montgomery, Dalton Rocha, Ryan Lopez, Vincent Camacho and Kevin Zablocki.
Moorpark players are Austin Cole, Dylan Curt, James Glover, Jordyn Guerreo, Antonio Herrera, Michael Ketring, Corey Lee, Jared Mattera, Gunnar Mazur, Mitchell Paulson, Brett Plank and Taylor Ready.
The Section 1 Tournament will have Saturday's winners play Sunday at 1 p.m. Monday will be an elimination game and Tuesday's championship will be at 5:30 p.m.
July 18 will be the deciding game at 5:30 p.m., if necessary.
From Nipomo, the Section 1 champion joins Southern California's seven other champions for the SoCal State Tournament at La Mirada, July 21-29. From there, the SoCal champion advances to the Western Region Tournament on San Bernardino Aug. 3-11. The West Region champion moves on to the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pa., Aug. 17-26.
