Oxnard Airport reopens after bomb scare

A suspicious package found at the Oxnard Airport this morning was not a bomb, authorities determined.

The package was discovered about 6:25 a.m. by a Transportation Security Administration officer, Oxnard police spokesman David Keith said.

The airport was closed, and Oxnard police diverted traffic at Fifth Street and Patterson Road while the Sheriff's Department Bomb Squad evaluated the package, Keith said.

The squad found no explosives in the package, and the airport and surrounding roads were open again by 9 a.m., Keith said. The package might have been a shaving kit, authorities said.

What makes a package "suspicious"? Was it lurking in the shadows or did it have excessive amounts of tape and wrapping for the warm weather conditions?
