14 arrested in Ventura County gang sweep
Authorities said this week that 14 people were arrested in a recent gang sweep.
During the July 6 sweep, 30 officers from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, the Ventura Police Department and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency dropped in on gang members at 23 locations in El Rio, Ventura, Saticoy and Nyeland Acres, according to a statement from the Sheriff's Department.
Law enforcement officers checked in on gang members on probation or parole and then took to the streets to look for lawbreakers, said Capt. Ron Nelson of the Sheriff's Department.
Of the 14 gang members who were arrested, the majority were booked on drug charges or probation and parole violations.
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency was along to look for undocumented gang members. They did not find any in this sweep, Nelson said.
