BELLFLOWER — One big inning and one dominant pitching performance added up to one crucial victory for the Thousand Oaks Big League All-Stars.

Thousand Oaks scored five runs in the sixth to back the one-hit pitching of Zach Thornton and beat East Anaheim 5-0 Tuesday, improving to 2-0 in the Southern California State Tournament at Ruth Caruthers Park.

Thousand Oaks' next game will be Friday at 7:30 p.m., against the winner of Tuesday's late game.

Thornton (Oak Park/Ventura College) struck out four, walked two and allowed only a fifth-inning single by Anaheim's Nick Hanger. He needed just 84 pitches, 59 of them strikes.

Consecutive singles by Mike Schwartz, Stephen Notaro, Jake Fiss and Ty Muller — along with three East Anaheim errors — produced the five-run sixth for Thousand Oaks, the defending World Series champions in the Little League division for 16- to 18-year-olds.
