From the Pro: Olivas Links requires hitting different shots

Olivas Links is now open, bringing with it its links style of play and tight lies. That means golfers playing the new Olivas will have to find different shots to hit around the greens.

Do not fall in love with your many wedges. You need to bump and run into some of those mounds, allowing the ball to get on he ground rolling over those mounds so that the ball is slowing down as it nears the hole.

To be successful, hit the ball as low as you can into the mound, using a 7-, 8- or 9-iron.

Play the ball off your right instep.

With the tight lies you will get off the paspalumn grass, you want to hit down on the ball.

Put your hands forward with about 70 percent of your weight on the left foot.

All of the above will give you a descending blow. Your sternum should be slightly in front of the ball, never behind it. Your lower body should remain quiet as you swing using your arms and hands.

Another option with the bump and run is to use a 3- or 5-wood. Using these clubs like a putter will provide you with just enough loft to get the ball rolling with overspin.
