Body found at Emma Wood State Beach is identified

Authorities on Tuesday identified a woman whose body was found this weekend at Emma Wood State Beach in Ventura.

Janice Cordero, 59, died of natural causes, said Shasta Gainer, a forensic pathology technician in the Ventura County Medical Examiner's office.

Cordero was homeless, Gainer said.

Cordero's body was found in a patch of poison oak about 5 p.m. Sunday by a park aide who was walking near the beach's group camp with his daughters.

The remains were skeletal and it appeared that they had been there for several weeks, officials said.

I hope she did all that’s asked of us to make it into heaven.
