Stolen cash register is discovered on fire

The cash register from Danny's Meat Market in Santa Paula was on fire this weekend, and not because steaks were selling like hotcakes.

A Santa Paula Police Department officer passing by a parking lot in the area of 12th and Orchard streets about 1:35 a.m. found the register in flames, Lt. Mike Saviers said.

Officers initially could not find a local business missing a cash register, but about 2 a.m., the police department received a report that someone had broken a window of Danny's at 974 E. Main St.

When officers arrived at the business, they found the cash register missing, Saviers said.

"Whoever broke in hauled the cash register away and set it on fire," he said.

Police on Monday had not identified a suspect in the burglary.
