S.P. man arrested on fraud charges
A Santa Paula man was arrested Monday nearly a week after he allegedly bought a car with a closed checking account, police said.
Patrick Anthony Estrada, 26, was arrested about 6 p.m. Monday in the 100 block of North 10th Street after a police officer recognized the pickup truck he was driving as stolen, said Lt. Mike Saviers of the Santa Paula Police Department.
The pickup was reported stolen July 3 after Estrada allegedly paid for it at Santa Paula Chevrolet with a personal check from an account that had been closed, Saviers said.
Estrada was booked into the Ventura County Jail, where he was being held in lieu of $20,000 bail Tuesday.
He is facing felony charges including auto theft and writing a check with insufficient funds and intent to defraud.

The finance manager at the dealership must be an idiot to accept a personal check w/o somehow verifying that the funds were available to cover the check.
