GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL

Point West Mizuno earns national Junior Olympic title

The Point West Mizuno 18-and-under girls' club team won the national Junior Olympic championship with a 25-21, 23-25, 15-9 win over the Milwaukee Sting 18 Gold.

Point West of Agoura Hills reached the finals with a three-set victory over Triangle 18 Black of Morrisville, N.C,. in the quarterfinals and a sweep of TAV 18 Asics of Fort Worth, Texas, in the semifinals.

Kimmee Roleder of Point West was named the 18 National Most Valuable Player.

Rob Machan is the head coach and Kristine Butler is the assistant coach.

The other Point West players are Molly Cindric, Mydori Saipale, Camille Soto, Leslie Windham, Samantha Macks, Chelsea Hamilton, Courtni Kidd-Kadlubek, Chelsea Daley and Rachael Kidder. Daley and Kidd-Kadlubek were named to the all-tournament team.

Roleder will play at USC in 2007-08. Others playing in college will be Daley (Azusa Pacific), Kidd-Kadlubek (Sacred Heart), Saipale (Sacred Heart), Windham (The Masters College), Soto (Graceland), Cindric (Merrimack) and Macks (Tampa),

GIRLS' SOFTBALL

Westlake Agoura 12-and-under team wins state championship

The 12-and-under Westlake Agoura Gold all-stars won the Southern California State B Division Amateur Softball Association championship in Lancaster.

Westlake Agoura, the finalist in last summer's national tournament, was the 2005 10-and-under national champion.

Eight of the players are returning from last summer. WAGS is 29-2-1, winning 28games in a row after losing the first two games to start the tournament season.

WAGS defeated Simi Valley 9-4 for the state title.

The players are Carly Silliman, Coral Silverberg, Morgan Schlobohm, Kelly Spear, Jamie DePippo, Caitlyn Morrison, Kelsey Haines, Jenna Sugar, Emily Dinino, Ava Jensen, Christie Langlois, and Nicole Leonard,

WAGS defeated Laguna Niguel 11-1 in the opening game. Westlake Agoura defeated Torrance 5-0, South Huntington Beach 15-5 and Simi Valley to reach the championship game. 2-0. Simi Valley eliminated South Huntington Beach, but WAGS came through to defeat Western District rival Simi Valley.

Fillmore success: The 14-and-under Fillmore all-stars won the District C championship for the first time and have an 18-1 record heading into the California State Games in San Diego this weekend. Fillmore has won four championships.

The players are Kianna Taranago, Olivia Alcozar, Kelsie McClain, Brittany Chumley, Nadia Lomelli, Victoria Ayala, Rebecca Vassaur, Maritz Mesa, Jessica Given, Torri Perez, Chianti Sumaran, Ana Christine Morino an Sam Wokel.

GOLD COAST 14, SOUTH COAST RED 6

Ventura County League 12 and under

Highlights: South Coast — Katie Coyle scored two goals. Cory Katz scored two goals. Derek Peters had one goal, one steal and one assist. Dakota Daniels had two assists. Kevin Takata had one goal and one assist. Clarrissa Barr had one steal. Katharine Munning had two steals. Peter McKee had two steals and Claydon Foggleman had four saves in the goal.

SIMI 14, SOUTH COAST WHITE 2

Ventura County League 12 and under

Highlights: South Coast — Cole McClung had two goals. Chas Henley had an assist and two steals. Ryan Reardon had two saves in goal and an assist. Landon McLeod had two saves in the goal and a steal. Jillian Noble had a steal and Sean Ripley had two steals.

TITANS 13, SOUTH COAST BLUE 4

Ventura County League 12 and under

Highlights: Titans — Chase Diego and Zachary Davis each had four goals. Nick Ratekin added two goals. Frankie Tomasello, Molly Winter and Garrett Gregg added goals. Tomasello had two assists. McKenna Gregg, Ratekin and David Macias had assists.. Goalies David Macias had three saves and Katelynn Womack had four saves. South Coast — Sierra Barton had six saves in the cage and one assist. Morgan Hallock had two goals, seven steals, and one assist. Shea Craig had one goal and six steals. Marton Toth had two assists and five steals. Drew Palladino had three steals.

SOUTH COAST RED 8, AGOURA 6

Ventura County League 14 and under

Highlights: South Coast — Pierce Henning and Drew Nelson each had a pair of goals and three steals. Eugene Ruddy had three steals. Kevin Takata had an assist and a steal. Bronson Reich had three steals and a goal. Nick Benz had 11 saves, two steals and an assist in the goal.

SOUTH COAST WHITE 7, AGOURA 7

Ventura County League 14 and under

Highlights: South Coast — Joe Nelson and RJ Kashare each had a pair of goals and a pair of assists. Jacob Hisel had two steals. Hannah Andrews had a steal and an assist. Jack Elder had three steals, three saves and an assist.

SOUTH COAST BLUE 5, GOLD COAST 5

Ventura County League 14 and under

Highlights: South Coast — Katie Kidder had two goals, three steals and two assists. Garret French had one goal and four steals. Jessica Andrews had one goal, two assists, and three steals. Joshua Toone had five steals and one goal.

TITANS 12, SIMI 5

Ventura County League 14-and-under Division 1

Highlights: Titans — Courtney Walters scored four goals. Brendan Kirk added three goals. Joe Yamamoto and Zac Womack each had two goals. Nick Ratekin added a goal. Jessie Craig had an assist. Walters, Yamamoto and Kirk had assists. Yamamoto had four steals and two field blocks. Ratekin had three steals. Nick Vallejo and Walters each had two steals. Goalies Zac Womack had two saves and two steals. Kirk had four saves.
