Tougher fire regulations to go into effect Friday
Los Padres National Forest officials are implementing increased fire restrictions beginning Friday because of rising fire danger.
The Zaca fire in the Santa Barbara County portion of the forest has burned 8,200 acres and was 30 percent contained Monday.
The restrictions, which will remain in effect until late autumn, include:
n Wood and charcoal fires are not allowed in the forest, including campgrounds and campfire sites.
n Target shooting is only allowed in Ventura County at the Ojai Valley Gun Club. Hunting with a valid license is still permitted.
n Smoking is only allowed in an enclosed vehicle, building or designated campfire site.
n Portable stoves and lanterns are only allowed in designated campfire sites with a permit, which are free and available at any Forest Service office.
