Woman, 32, dies of injuries in Oxnard accident

A woman died early Sunday morning after the vehicle she was riding in broadsided another car in Oxnard, police officials said.

Monica Campos, 32, of Oxnard was in the passenger seat of a car driven by Gerardo Arreola, 25, also of Oxnard. They were traveling north on J Street about 10:30 p.m. Saturday when Arreola failed to stop at a posted stop sign at the intersection of J and Yucca Streets, Oxnard police said.

The driver of the second vehicle, Galdino Ramirez Jara, 21, of Port Hueneme; passenger Cynthia Carrillo, 20, of Oxnard; and their 5-month-old daughter, Lexie Jara, were traveling eastbound on Yucca Street when Arreola broadsided their vehicle, officials said.

Jara and Carrillo reported minor injuries. Their daughter was in a child restraint seat and not injured.

Arreola is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, and charges are pending toxicology results, police said. Officials said Arreola, who suffered a broken leg, and Campos were not wearing seat belts.

Emergency personnel extricated Campos from the vehicle and rushed her to St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where she died at 12:09 a.m. Sunday. Campos suffered blunt-force injuries to her chest, Ventura County Medical Examiner-Coroner officials said.

Oxnard police are asking anyone who saw the accident to contact Senior Officer Humberto Jimenez at 385-7749.

How about this: "and their 5-month-old daughter, Lexie Jara, were traveling eastbound on Yucca Streetwhen Arreola broadsided their vehiclethe accident occurred, officials said."

Don't they proof read before they send? Middle school kids could do a better job writing the news.

These initial articles by the Star are a good service to us all. They are quickly assembled and posted which prevents us from having to wait for the print edition to get such news. Once in final form, criticism is in order.

To Rubio and AnaCapa, They are called semi-colons, the sentence make perfect sense. And the woman was 32.

Why bother with this? It's a sad story, and even if something was mis spelled..nevermind..waste of time.

This is a tragic turn of events. I am deeply saddened by the loss of human life at the expense of a drunk driver and for the family whose daughter they will remember only in memory. For the three children now without their mother is a true loss. As their uncle I promise to be a positive force in their lives. Prays go out to the family and the children. May they find the strength to move forward and carry out Monica's wishes to be the best they can be.
