Buehrle, White Sox agree to four-year, $56 million deal
Mark Buehrle is staying with the White Sox, agreeing Sunday to a $56 million, four-year contract extension through the 2011 season.
Buehrle, a three-time All-Star, was eligible to become a free agent after this season. With the White Sox struggling this season just two years after winning the World Series, Buehrle's name popped up often in trade rumors.
Pujols, Rios last two entrants in Home Run Derby: Albert Pujols has agreed to participate in tonight's Home Run Derby, even though the St. Louis Cardinals' star is mired in a career-worst power slump.
Pujols and Alex Rios of the Toronto Blue Jays were the final two participants added to the field, Major League Baseball spokesman Pat Courtney said. The Derby will be held in San Francisco, site of Tuesday's All-Star Game. Pujols hasn't homered in 22 games and a career-worst 74 at-bats.
Rios, Minnesota's Justin Morneau, Vladimir Guerrero of the Angels and Magglio Ordonez of the Tigers are the AL's representatives for the Derby. Pujols, Philadelphia's Ryan Howard and Prince Fielder of the Brewers are the NL contestants. Florida's Miguel Cabrera was scratched Sunday because of a shoulder injury.
Teixeira to return: First baseman Mark Teixeira is ready to return to the Texas Rangers lineup and end his games-missed streak at 28.
Teixeira, who played in a club record 507 consecutive games before going on the disabled list June 9 with a strained left quadriceps muscle, will make a rehabilitation start at Double-A Frisco on Wednesday. He then expects to play Friday night for the Rangers in their first game after the All-Star break at the Angels.
Reds' Bailey sent to minors: Rookie right-hander Homer Bailey was optioned to the minors so the Cincinnati Reds' top prospect can keep pitching over the All-Star break. The Reds called up infielder Pedro Lopez.
