Oxnard residents killed in Newhall crash
Two Oxnard residents were killed in a solo car accident on the Fourth of July, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Selvia Sandoval, 37, and Elena Alverez, 10, died after the vehicle they were riding in at 8:20 p.m. veered off Highway 5 and rolled down a dirt embankment, according to a written statement from the CHP.
Sandoval was ejected from the car and Alvarez suffered major head trauma that proved fatal.
CHP officials had not determined Monday what caused the car's driver, Carlos Alvarez Uribe, 38, to lose control of the vehicle.
Alvarez Uribe sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Two of other three passengers in the vehicle, Jolanda Rodela, 47, and Mayra Alverez, 12, suffered major injuries.
Both were airlifted to Los Angeles County Medical Center.
The fifth passenger, Manuel Sandoval, 70, had minor injuries.
