Coroner trying to identify body found on beach

More from Other NewsVentura County medical examiners are working today to identify skeletal remains found Sunday afternoon at Emma Wood State Beach in Ventura.
An autopsy was in progress early this afternoon.
The skeletal remains were mummified. The body was found in a patch of poison oak near the park's group camp, about 100 yards west of railroad tracks.
Ventura County Senior Deputy Medical Examiner Craig Stevens said the body had likely been there for at least three weeks.
The body was discovered about 5 p.m. by a man and his three daughters who were walking in the area, said Jordan League, a park aide.
"They just came to me and said there was a body," he said.
Shortly after arriving at the scene, Stevens said the remains had been there long enough that he couldn't tell the gender. But the clothing on the body appeared to be a woman's.
He said a purse with identification was found, but it wasn't clear if those materials were linked to the body.
No obvious initial signs indicated the death was linked to trauma or violence, he said.
