THOUSAND OAKS
Painter will give demonstration
Nature painter David C. Gallup of Thousand Oaks will demonstrate landscape painting techniques at a free event Saturday at the Museum of Ventura County's satellite location in The Oaks shopping center in Thousand Oaks.
Gallup, known for his light-infused land and seascapes, will demonstrate techniques like how a landscape painter captures the light of a quickly setting sun, or the movement of a wave and how much of a painting is done directly from nature.
The demonstration will take place from 1 to 3 p.m.
Gallup is working on a series of oil paintings about the Channel Islands. He is vice president of the California Art Club and serves on the International Advisory Committee of the Natural World Museum in San Francisco.
People who attend the demonstration also can see the museum's exhibit "Nature Observed: Painting, Sculpture & Photography," which runs through Labor Day. It features visions of the environment, ranging from those of 19th century artist Henry Chapman Ford and early 20th century California Impressionist Paul Lauritz, to contemporary painters, photographers and sculptors.
The Museum of Ventura County satellite at The Oaks is open noon to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays. It is on the upper level, northeast end, across from Anthropologie.
